The Great British Holiday.

We spent the last week sunning ourselves in balmy (or was it barmy??!) Scarborough.
I have to say we all had a great time.
Unlike snob I do not have an 'outfit' so had to make do with a cottage in a place between Scarborough and Filey (Killerby Old Hall) I have to say it was a real home from home (apart from the addition of their swimming pool), with a welcome pack of tea, wine (pinot grigio wow that woman was good I think she had read my mind before arrival!) and chocolate. I managed not to drink the wine on the first day as 1. We arrived pretty late after the wedding and 2. I had already had a rather large alcohol intake at the wedding and just couldn't take any more!!!

Scarborough itself proved just right for the kids, we spent the week on the beach (sometimes with our cardigans firmly on...sometimes plastered in suncream and a pair of pants/t-shirt/hat)
We have done all the done things that a British holiday commands; built sandcastles, dug dangerous deep holes, tried to build a sea dam, paddled and agreed it was too cold, body boarded, skim boarded, sand angel-ed, penny pushed, licked lollies, worried at the colour of bubble gum ice cream (blue), eaten wonderful fresh fish and chips, got confused whether the tide was in or out, hurried away from chavvy types enjoying themselves in alternative ways on their holidays, marvelled at the amount of sand that can be transported on a childs body that is later shed in the bath, and all in all had a great time.
Well, the children were happy, and if they were happy, so were we. Which is what being a parent starts to be about isn't it?
Oh and my fake tan lasted a good few more days, in fact I think I am still a little stained, but it started getting a little patchy as time went on, so I was happy to get home last night and get my exfoliation mit and give myself a good going over!

So that was that for this year, and we will be back to the usual routine of schooly runs and single parenting next week as husband returns to the murderous job.
Roll on next year when for once we can be a family again!
