Washing....

Firstly welcome to all the new bloggers on board and coming online soon! Cannot wait to hear what irritates and annoys fellow housewives!

But the WASHING! Jees, the friggin washing.

I was privy to a conversation by one of those enviable women. The type that makes it to the gym, looks cool and confident and to boot is bloody annoyingly nice with a great sense of humour when you speak to her. (BITCH! - it would be so much better if her accent grated, her child was ugly or she was just an plain ol' narsty piece o' work)
Anyhoo, back to the conversation. SHE has her housewivery duties planned during the Mon-Thurs pre-school time.

Mondays is washing
Tuesdays is ironing
Wednesdays is big cleans and polishing.
Thursdays (as she puts it) "sitting on my bum watching DVDs as I worked bloody hard to do everything earlier in the week".

Good for her. (Can you see why I like her - despite the obvious flaw of being an excellent housewife?)

But I cannot get past the getting through all the washing in one day... I don't do ironing - I have an allergy to that or something, anyhoo I am sure it is bad for my health. I am not very green either. The washing line has not be used at all this year. It takes so long to dry opposite the sea it is unreal. So, I tumble and aim to get things out when warm to do the "Anthea" shake and fold technique.
Oh and the thought of clothes horses round the house with clothes drying! OH MY GOD! I am such a bad housewife all that mess would drive me insane! I can't cope with clothes on radiators - I can just about cope with the woolly pully loads. But, every wash? I would never have the house clear of drying clothes.

But even with this I have to put a wash on everyday. I haven't today, it is backing up so will have to have a purge tomorrow - possibly three loads.
I honestly don't know where I am going wrong. The girls, as do I, have what the trendies call a "capsule" wardrobe (i.e. the minimum - shopping for three girls is very expensive!) I encourage them not to worry about filthy clothes when they are at home - but they are going through a Gok phase and seem to have to wear ALL their clothes everyday. (And yes, I did make the middle one change this afternoon when she thought odd socks, with grey leggings with grey spots teamed with a yellow top and a pink cardigan looked good......)

So, at what age can I expect them to do their own laundry? I am thinking that maybe 4 would be a good age.....

I can get my nearly 4 yr old to throw the dirty clothes down the stairs, put it in the washer and then take it out and put everything in the tumbler (not the best idea for my bras and other delicates) but he just will not put the dried clothes away. My argument is that he can use the washing basket as a boat again but he just ignores me and tips the clean washing on my bedroom floor, makes the boat and there the washing lays until we put it on to wear the next day. This is our capsule wardrobe.
